Common questions
If your question isn’t here, the fastest way to an answer is usually a short conversation.
-
Veliss Law handles a wide range of disputes for individuals and businesses, including business and commercial litigation, real estate and title, community association matters, entertainment and reputation, and insurance defense and coverage.
-
Individuals and businesses across a range of disputes, community associations, and artists and public figures. In insurance matters, the firm also represents insurers and their insureds.
-
Yes. When a matter should be tried, we try it. We build every case for that possibility; we usually negotiate from a position of strength, which is why many matters resolve on good terms before a trial is needed.
-
The case manager is the person who stays closest to the day-to-day of your file and serves as your regular point of contact. They know the chronology, the documents, and the current status, and they report on a consistent cadence. We build this role into every matter on purpose, because knowing where a case stands matters as much as where it ends up.
-
A member of the team responds, and the first conversation is a listening one. We ask about the matter, what has happened so far, and what you need. If we are the right firm for it, we set out the approach, the likely path, and what it will take. If we are not, we will say so and point you somewhere better.
-
Communication is treated as a discipline here. Your case manager provides updates at each meaningful stage. The attorneys leading the matter make themselves available when a decision needs discussing.
-
Yes, and that is a common reason clients come to us. A dispute that touches a business relationship, a piece of property, and an insurance question is handled by one team from start to finish.
-
Insurance defense is the practice of representing insurers and the people and businesses they insure when a claim is brought against them. The firm investigates the claim, evaluates exposure, and litigates or resolves the matter. It is one of the areas Veliss Law practices in.
-
We plan for it. Where a case carries public exposure, the legal strategy and the reputational one have to be built together. Filings are written knowing they may be read publicly. Timing is considered, and we coordinate with managers or publicists when it serves the client.
-
Yes. Veliss Law practices in California and Oregon, and works with clients nationwide.
-
We are candid early about what a matter is likely to require. Invoices are itemized, each task is handled at the level suited to it, and the bill reflects the work done. Predictability matters as much as the total, and the aim is an invoice that holds no surprises.
